The Oakland Police Department is investigating three smash-and-grab burglaries of Chevron gas stations that occurred within a 15-minute time span.
Oakland police say the suspects struck the first of three smash-and-grab Chevron stations on Lakeshore Avenue, the second on Redwood Road, and the third on Moraga Avenue.
In at least one of the burglaries, the surveillance video shows an Oakland police car arriving as the suspects are driving off. Still, the police fail to pursue the criminals because of rules against chasing criminals.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has pleaded with Oakland city officials to allow police to pursue criminals.
