Palm Bay Police Department gives update on officer-involved shooting.
Two people died and two officers were injured after a shooting in Palm Bay on Sunday afternoon, and one witness was there to capture it all.

On January 28, 2024, at approximately 1407 hrs, Palm Bay Police Officers responded to the 400 block of Forgal Ave NE for a domestic disturbance.
Upon arriving, officers attempted to speak with 24-year-old, Brandon Kapas who was exiting the residence and refusing to comply with officer’s verbal commands. Shortly thereafter, an exchange of gunfire occurred, injuring two of our officers. Additional officers responded to the area and pursued the suspect who fatally wounded another person before being engaged by law enforcement and subsequently killed.
Our two officers are being treated for their injuries and are expected to make a full recovery. The Palm Bay Police Department would like to extend our deepest appreciation to our officers and to the law enforcement agencies that have assisted our police family during this difficult time. Additionally, thank you to the citizens of our community for their tremendous support throughout this challenging situation.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is on scene due to the nature of this investigation. At this time, we will not be releasing the names of our officers or that of the decedent. As new information becomes available, we will update this release.
