United State postal inspectors are offering an award of up to $150,000 to find the person who robbed a postal worker in Oakland.

The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) has announced a substantial reward of up to $150,000 for any information leading to the apprehension of a suspect involved in the robbery of a United States Postal Service (USPS) letter carrier earlier this month in Oakland.

The suspect, described as 5-foot-6 and weighing 250 pounds, was last seen clad in a dark jacket and red sweatpants.

The incident transpired around 3:45 p.m. on March 2 in the 400 block of Euclid Avenue, where the mail carrier fell victim to the robbery, according to USPS reports. Following the robbery, the suspect fled southbound on Euclid Avenue towards Grand Avenue.

Surveillance footage captures the suspect entering and exiting a residence, as well as engaging with a USPS employee.

USPS advises individuals not to take any action to apprehend the suspect themselves.

This robbery is the latest in a concerning trend of postal workers falling prey to robberies in the Bay Area. U.S. Postal Inspector Matt Norfleet expressed the significant increase in threats and attacks on mail carriers in recent times.

In response to these crimes, lawmakers in Congress have introduced the bipartisan “Protect Our Letter Carriers” act. This proposed legislation aims to expedite the replacement of mailbox keys with digital locks, enhance prosecution efforts, and renew sentencing guidelines to safeguard postal workers from such incidents.
