Vallejo Woman Attacked and Robbed After Leaving a Nearby Bank Caught on Camera

Police say this Vallejo woman is part of a crime trend known as “bank hugging,” where criminals follow individuals withdrawing cash from banks or ATMs.

A woman in her 60s from Vallejo was attacked and robbed Thursday afternoon, according to her family, who now fears for her safety.

The robbery occurred around 1:45 p.m. just outside her home on Barkley Court. Her nephew said, that she had likely been followed after leaving a nearby bank.

Surveillance footage shows the woman walking outside when a man suddenly rushes toward her, forcibly taking her cross-body purse. The incident left her with bruises on her arms and deeply shaken.

“It’s shocking that this happened to one of us,” said Patrick Ona, her nephew. “We never expected anything like this. We’ve had friends’ homes broken into, but nothing this violent.”

The stolen purse contained cash and other personal items. Vallejo Police are currently investigating the robbery.

Authorities advise staying alert, avoiding distractions like wearing earbuds or using phones when leaving ATMs.

Una mujer de unos 60 años de Vallejo fue atacada y asaltada el jueves por la tarde, según su familia, que ahora teme por su seguridad.

El robo se produjo sobre las 13.45 horas. justo afuera de su casa en Barkley Court. Su sobrino dijo que probablemente la habían seguido después de salir de un banco cercano.

Las imágenes de vigilancia muestran a la mujer caminando afuera cuando de repente un hombre corre hacia ella y le quita por la fuerza su bolso cruzado. El incidente la dejó con moretones en los brazos y profundamente conmocionada.

“Es impactante que esto le haya sucedido a uno de nosotros”, dijo Patrick Ona, su sobrino. “Nunca esperábamos algo así. Hemos asaltado casas de amigos, pero nada tan violento”.

El bolso robado contenía dinero en efectivo y otros objetos personales. La policía de Vallejo se encuentra actualmente investigando el robo.

Los departamentos de policía del Área de la Bahía han advertido anteriormente sobre una tendencia criminal conocida como “abrazo bancario”, donde los delincuentes siguen a personas que retiran efectivo de bancos o cajeros automáticos.

Las autoridades recomiendan mantenerse alerta y evitar distracciones como usar auriculares o teléfonos al salir de los cajeros automáticos.
