Chicago police are currently investigating a violent assault and robbery incident that occurred in a Northwest Side neighborhood.
The victim, walking around 11 a.m. Monday morning on Linder Avenue near West Montrose Avenue, was targeted by assailants in a dark-colored sedan, as captured by video footage. The sedan pulled up in front of her, and two men emerged, armed with what appeared to be a baseball bat. They forcibly shoved her to the ground.
Eyewitness Christian Zajac recounted the victim’s ordeal, stating, “What I heard from the lady, she was holding onto her bag and they were hitting her with the bat. That’s when she let go because she was scared. She didn’t know whether they had a gun or not. She didn’t want to risk anything more than that.” Zajac, who was working on construction nearby, promptly dialed 911 upon hearing the victim’s screams. He and his coworkers assisted the victim, who spoke Polish, in communicating with the police.
According to Zajac, the victim sustained minor injuries, including cuts on her ear and a slight limp. The assailants fled the scene with her purse, wallet, and cards.
Mercedes Cordreanu, from Elite Physique Fitness Studio, revealed that her newly installed surveillance cameras captured the attack. She took proactive measures by alerting her clients to remain vigilant while in the area.
The Chicago Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in their investigation.
