A mass shooting in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, on the night of October 4, 2025, resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to 12 others. The incident occurred near Bibb Street and Commerce Street.

What happened
Police believe two groups began firing at each other in the middle of a crowd, though some initial shots may have been targeted.
When gunfire started, others in the crowd also drew weapons and began shooting.
The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m.
Victims
Deceased: Jeremiah Morris, 17, and Shalanda Williams, 43, were killed.
Injured: A total of 12 people were wounded, and as of Sunday, October 5, five had life-threatening injuries. Seven of the injured were under the age of 20.
Investigation
Authorities believe the shooting was not related to local events happening that weekend, such as the Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic, the Alabama National Fair, or Alabama State University’s homecoming game.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements.
A reward of at least $50,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest.
The police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
