Press Release Update: Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Leads Investigation into Officer-Involved Shooting in Reno

On February 15, 2025, the defendant involved in the officer-involved shooting with the Reno Police Department succumbed to the injuries sustained from the incident.
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct its formal death investigation and will release the defendant’s name following notification of next of kin.
The officer-involved shooting investigation, led by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, is ongoing. Any further updates will be provided as they develop.

On Sunday, February 9, 2025, the Sparks Police Department was investigating a domestic violence incident. Sparks Police Department had information that the suspect was no longer in Sparks, NV. Reno Police Department assisted with the investigation by locating the suspect and his vehicle in the area of 9th and Montello Street in Reno, NV. Reno Police Department attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The suspect failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued. At approximately 10:30 a.m., the suspect led officers into the ER parking lot of Renown Regional Medical Center, where an officer-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect was transported to the local hospital with unknown injuries, and the officers involved were uninjured.
The Regional Officer-Involved Shooting Protocol was enacted, and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the Sparks Police Department.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, with no outstanding suspects or threats to the public. Updates will be released as they become available. Once this investigation is complete, it will be submitted to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office for review.
