South Carolina has executed Mikal Mahdi, the second inmate in the state’s history to die by firing squad.
Mahdi, 41, is the fifth person executed by the State since it resumed capital punishment in September 2024.
Despite pleas from advocacy groups, Governor Henry McMaster did not grant Mahdi clemency.
