Champlin Police Respond to Early Morning Shooting Involving State Legislator

Investigation ongoing in coordination with state and local agencies.

CHAMPLIN, Minn. — At approximately 2:07 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, Champlin Police officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 8000 block of 109th Place North. Upon arrival, officers located two victims inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Immediate life-saving efforts were rendered by responding officers until Allina Health emergency personnel arrived and transported both victims to a nearby hospital.

In collaboration with the Hennepin County Crime Scene Investigation unit and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Champlin Police Department initiated a thorough investigation of the scene. The incident is believed to be linked to a second, related shooting that occurred shortly thereafter in Brooklyn Park.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” said Champlin Police Chief Glen Schneider. “We are working closely with state and local law enforcement partners to follow leads and pursue all necessary investigative steps.”

At this time, the suspect or suspects remain at large. However, based on current information, authorities believe the incidents were targeted attacks against specific individuals. There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

The City of Champlin extends its thoughts and prayers to Senator John Hoffman, Representative Melissa Hortman, and their families during this difficult time.

Anyone who observes suspicious activity or has relevant information should call 911 immediately and give details to Hennepin County dispatch. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and other state agencies are leading the broader investigation. All media inquiries should be directed to the State Public Information Office at 651-201-7477 or eoc.pio.2@state.mn.us.
