Christopher Daniels Arrested For Allegedly Shooting Two MARTA Police Officers in Atlanta, Georgia

Georgia law permits individuals to carry firearms in public, but MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher says he would like to see that law amended to prohibit guns on MARTA property.

MARTA police reported that two officers were shot while trying to arrest a suspect. The suspect, Christopher Daniels, fled to Alabama but was later taken into custody.

The incident began when officers Carlos Williams and Rayven Thomas approached the suspect at the Five Points Station for allegedly urinating near the platform. When he refused to cooperate, officers attempted to handcuff him.

“They got one cuff on, and he used his free hand to pull out a weapon and fire behind him,” MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher said. The suspect fired six shots.

Officer Carlos Williams was struck in the arm and underwent surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital. Officer Rayven Thomas suffered a shrapnel wound to her knee and experienced hearing loss from the gunfire.
