Lakewood Sheriff’s Station Press Release Re: Theft Suspect Assault on Deputy at Lakewood Center Mall
Deputy Assaulted During Theft Investigation at Ulta Beauty Cosmetics Store
On Saturday, a Lakewood Deputy responded to Ulta Beauty Cosmetics Store at the Lakewood Center Mall, regarding a theft in progress. When the deputy arrived, he attempted to detain the suspect, but the suspect resisted and assaulted the deputy. After a short struggle the suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect (an adult male and resident of Los Angeles) was placed under arrest for assault on a peace officer resulting in injury, which is a felony. He was booked at Lakewood Station jail. The suspect was also on probation for a recent robbery conviction.
Recent trends involving theft of beauty supplies have been linked to organized crime where these stolen products are sold in the black market. These brazen suspects are often armed and fight back when law enforcement arrives to investigate. Despite the consequences, Lakewood Station deputies continue to work hard to protect the citizens and hard-working businesses in our community.
Lakewood Station also wants to remind the community of the measures in place to enhance public safety at the Lakewood Center Mall. Some of the public safety measures include uniformed Deputies on patrol, LASD Volunteers on Patrol, Mall Security monitoring the area, and an extensive video surveillance system that assists in capturing and prosecuting suspects.
Be safe everyone!
