Bay Area detective opens up after winning $8M sexual harassment case.
“I felt like I had to stand up for myself”: Carryn Barker was the only female member of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s SWAT team, and now, she’s about to receive what could be a record settlement for a sexual harassment case.
The lawsuit against the county details lewd comments allegedly made by her SWAT team leader, Andre Moniot, in front of other officers. “He expressed wanting to have sex with me,” Barker explained. “He also talked about wanting to watch me perform sexual acts with others.”
Barker told the I-team that the harassment was relentless and escalated to physical contact during an out-of-town training session, in front of other SWAT team members. “He wrestled me to the ground and reached his hand through my legs, touching private areas,” she recounted.
