RIVERSIDE, CA – On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at approximately 10:26 a.m., Riverside Police Officers assigned to our Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Team conducted an area check along the 6600 block of Palm Avenue for a vehicle that was taken in a carjacking earlier in the day. POP Officers located the carjacked vehicle occupied by a male driver and male passenger in this area. As they began to make an enforcement stop, the driver of the carjacked vehicle failed to pull over and turned into an apartment complex, where he continued to the rear of the property. The driver quickly exited the carjacked vehicle, holding a handgun. One of the officers fired his duty weapon, striking the driver. The passenger remained in the car and was detained by officers.

Officers assessed the driver’s injuries and summoned medical aid. He was taken to a local hospital, where he remains under arrest and in custody while receiving medical care and awaiting transfer to a detention ward at another medical facility.

The driver and carjacking suspect was identified as Eddie Madrigal, 42-years-old from Moreno Valley. Mr. Madrigal is a documented gang member currently on parole for robbery with the use of a firearm.

Whenever an officer-involved shooting occurs with the Riverside Police Department, it is investigated by an outside agency, in which this one will be handled by the Riverside Sheriff’s Force Investigations Detail. RIVERSIDE, CA – El martes 18 de junio de 2024, aproximadamente a las 10:26 a. m., los oficiales de policía de Riverside asignados a nuestro Equipo de Policía Orientada a Problemas (POP, por sus siglas en inglés) realizaron una revisión del área a lo largo de la cuadra 6600 de Palm Avenue en busca de un vehículo que fue secuestrado. un robo de auto ese mismo día. Los oficiales de POP localizaron el vehículo robado ocupado por un conductor y un pasajero en esta área. Cuando comenzaron a hacer una parada policial, el conductor del vehículo robado no se detuvo y giró hacia un complejo de apartamentos desde donde continuó hasta la parte trasera de la propiedad. El conductor salió rápidamente del vehículo robado empuñando una pistola. Uno de los agentes disparó su arma de servicio e hirió al conductor. El pasajero permaneció en el vehículo y fue detenido por los agentes.

Los agentes evaluaron las lesiones del conductor y pidieron ayuda médica. Fue trasladado a un hospital local donde permanece bajo arresto y bajo custodia mientras recibe atención médica y espera su traslado a una sala de detención en otro centro médico.

El conductor y sospechoso de robo de auto fue identificado como Eddie Madrigal, de 42 años de Moreno Valley. El Sr. Madrigal es un pandillero documentado que actualmente se encuentra en libertad condicional por robo con uso de arma de fuego.

Siempre que ocurre un tiroteo en el que interviene un oficial en el Departamento de Policía de Riverside, es investigado por una agencia externa, y este caso será manejado por el Departamento de Investigaciones de la Fuerza del Sheriff de Riverside.
