New York Police 73 Pct. Officer and 3 Others Injured in Police Shooting

New York City police allege that a man jumped a turnstile and was making threats inside a Brooklyn subway station before being shot by police on Sunday.

The incident occurred at the Sutter Avenue subway station in Brownsville around 3 p.m. Officers on patrol saw the 37-year-old man bypass the fare gate without paying. When the officers approached him for fare evasion, they followed him onto the platform and asked him to stop. The suspect allegedly responded by saying, “I am going to kill you if you don’t stop following me,” according to authorities.

The man then boarded a northbound train, and officers deployed their Tasers, which were ineffective. The suspect exited the train and allegedly charged at the officers with a knife, prompting them to open fire.

NYC Police Benevolent Association Statement

“We cannot do this alone. We need help from everyone involved in the criminal justice system.”

We are grateful that our injured 73 Pct. brother is recovering, and we’re praying for the civilians who were injured. But a justice system that keeps putting dangerous repeat offenders on the street is putting everyone at risk.

New Yorkers must stand with police officers and demand change.
