In February 2026, an elderly husband and wife were arrested following a massive brawl that erupted during a pickleball match at the Spruce Creek Country Club in Port Orange, Florida. The altercation reportedly involved over 20 people and began after a dispute over a “kitchen” rule violation.

The match between two married couples became “heated” when the male suspect allegedly accused his opponents of stepping into the “kitchen”—a restricted 7-foot area near the net intended to prevent close-range smashes.
Witnesses say, after exchanging verbal insults throughout the match, the male suspect allegedly shouted a derogatory slur at his opponent’s wife as they were leaving the court. When the husband confronted him, the male suspect reportedly punched the man in the face and struck him with a pickleball paddle.
