Angel Ochoa-Moreno Allegedly Shoots and Kills Victim While Trying to Steal Car in Gilroy

Gilroy police report that the suspect has been identified as Angel Ochoa-Moreno.

UPDATE:
The suspect arrested in this case has been identified as 27-year-old Oakland resident Angel Ochoa-Moreno. Ochoa-Moreno will be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for 187 PC -Homicide and 215 PC – Carjacking.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:
On March 14, 2023, at approximately 12:24 a.m., the Gilroy Police Department responded to the report of a hit-and-run accident with injuries in the 1300 block of Pheasant Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a 33-year-old male on the street with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the chest.

An initial investigation revealed that the victim had confronted a suspect who was stealing his car. During the confrontation, the suspect shot the victim and fled in the victim’s car. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) located the stolen vehicle and took the suspect into custody south of Salinas after a vehicle pursuit.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim information is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.

The Gilroy Police Department is actively investigating this incident; more details will be released as they become available.
