Off-duty Lomas de Zamora Police Officer Yamil Barragan was returning home and had just exited a city bus when he was accosted by two armed robbers on a motorcycle pointing a revolver at him.
22-year-old Officer Yamil Barragan drew his 9mm government-issued Barreta pistol and exchanged gunfire with one of the robbers, while the second robber fled on the motorcycle.
During the shootout, Officer Barragan took cover behind a parked car while the robber hid behind a utility pole.
The robber was shot in the thorax and head and died later in the hospital.
Authorities report that they are continuing the investigation to insure the officer’s actions were within the law and departmental policy.
