On Friday, police released surveillance images of the man they believe fatally stabbed 77-year-old Anival Patricio Elvir Ortiz as he rode his bike to work in east Houston. The suspect was seen on a METRORail platform just minutes after the attack.

Another video released Thursday appears to show a man matching the suspect’s description and wearing similar clothing stabbing Ortiz in the back.

The attack occurred around 5:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, along a bike trail on Harrisburg Boulevard. According to police, Ortiz continued riding for about 10 minutes until he reached work, where he told coworkers he had been struck in the back. Moments later, he collapsed and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“He might not have realized his injuries were so severe, and he just kept riding his bike,” HPD Sgt. Mark Holbrook said Thursday.
