Surveillance footage captured the perpetrators, one of them armed with a golf club, forcefully removing the cash register from the premises. Representatives from the donut shop, alongside city leaders, have expressed their concerns regarding the ongoing situation.

Yamamoto, who manages the Oakland Colonial Donuts, lamented the repeated robberies, highlighting the use of new security measures such as a cashless service window and altered overnight entry procedures. However, the latest incident occurred during a shift change at 6 a.m., catching the staff off guard.

Despite efforts to adapt, Yamamoto emphasized the challenges faced by small businesses in Oakland, citing the community’s reliance on establishments like Colonial Donuts while acknowledging the inherent difficulties of operating under such circumstances.

Seneca Scott, a community member, echoed these sentiments, advocating for increased police presence to address the rising crime rates and enhance public safety. Scott emphasized the urgent need for immediate support to prevent further closures of businesses and alleviate residents’ safety concerns.

Oakland District 2 Councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas reassured the community of ongoing efforts to combat crime, including enhanced community policing initiatives and the establishment of a police resource office in strategic locations like Grand Avenue, where Colonial Donuts is located. These measures aim to mitigate crime and provide support to local businesses and residents affected by the recent spate of robberies.
