Officer Involved Shooting

(February 13, 2024) Phoenix Police detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened this morning at about 6:47 a.m.

Officers responded to an unknown trouble call at about 6:30 a.m., on February 13, 2024, with details saying a man was holding a woman against her will at gunpoint at an apartment near 19th Avenue and Berridge Lane. When officers got to the area, they surrounded the apartment and began to call out individuals from inside the apartment.

While officers were giving commands, a man inside the apartment fired a handgun at officers from the backyard window. An officer returned fire. The man was then seen leaving the apartment and jumping over a block wall into the ally. Officers gave commands as the man ran down the alley. It was at this time a different officer fired his duty weapon stopping the man’s actions.

Officers provided medical care until the Phoenix Fire Department took over and drove him to the hospital. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and will be booked into jail upon his release from the hospital. No officers or community members were injured by gunfire. Detectives recovered the handgun used by the man on scene.
