Samuel Smithers is the 14th inmate executed in Florida this year.
The Florida Department of Corrections reports that Samuel Lee Smithers was executed by lethal injection in Florida on October 14, 2025, for the 1996 murders of Denise Roach and Christie Cowan. The 72-year-old was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. at Florida State Prison.
Samuel Smithers is the 14th inmate executed in Florida this year. A 15th execution is scheduled for next week.
