San Jose Police Department Press Release Re: Bush Lai Arrest
In late August 2025, a cryptocurrency trading platform client made multiple transfers to a cryptocurrency wallet associated to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). Following up, detectives with the San Jose Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) / Child Exploitation Detail (CED) Task Force conducted an investigation and identified the cryptocurrency trading platform client as Bush Lai, a resident of San José.
ICAC detectives obtained a search warrant for his residence that was executed on the morning of September 3, 2025. ICAC forensic officers located and seized devices from the residence that belonged to Lai and were confirmed to contain multiple files of CSAM. Suspect Lai was subsequently arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for possession of CSAM.
Lai confirmed with detectives that he was recently employed as a preschool teacher at a school in the 1900 Block of Clarinda Way in San José and also worked as a youth group volunteer at a local church in San José. Because Suspect Lai had access to children and is regarded to have been in a position of trust, SJPD is urging anyone with information about this incident to contact Detective Camarillo #4576 of the the San Jose Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) / Child Exploitation Detail (CED) Task Force at 4576@sanjoseca.gov.
San Jose ICAC collaborated with ICAC affiliates from the Contra Costa’s District Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations as well as with additional support from San Jose Police Human Trafficking Unit, 290 Unit and patrol.
