San Jose Police Press Release Re: Sean James Jr. Arrest

On February 15, 2026, at approximately 12:46 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a shooting that occurred inside of a business located in the 90 block of South Second Street. Preliminary investigation revealed the adult male suspect and the adult male victim were in a verbal altercation when the suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries later determined to be non-life-threatening.

The suspect, later identified as Sean James Jr., was swiftly taken into custody by patrol officers after he was restrained by employees on scene. A privately made firearm belonging to the suspect was recovered from the scene.

Suspect James Jr. was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder, as well as various firearm-related crimes.

“This violent suspect chose to wreak havoc in the wrong city,” stated SJPD Chief Paul Joseph. “I am grateful for the swift response by our Patrol Officers who immediately took the suspect into custody. Our department will pursue accountability and ensure the suspect faces the full consequences under the law.”

“Anyone who comes to San José to commit violence should be clear about the consequences: our officers will act swiftly, arrest those responsible, and hold them accountable,” said San José Mayor Matt Mahan. “Their rapid response ensured this night ended in handcuffs, not tragedy. And we will fight for the toughest consequences the law allows for anyone who threatens the safety of our community.”

“Our priority is always the safety of residents and visitors in our downtown,” said City Manager Jennifer Maguire. “In this case, the club’s staff acted quickly to restrain the suspect and worked closely with the San José Police Department officers who responded within minutes. That kind of coordination between our local businesses and law enforcement helps prevent further harm and ensures that those responsible are held accountable.”
