A violent clash between the Gulf Drug Cartel and the Northeast Drug Cartel in the town of Doctor Coss in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico, was captured on camera and shared across various social media platforms.
According to reports from Spanish-speaking news outlets, the drug cartels engaged in a fierce gun battle using armored vehicles converted from trucks. The confrontation unfolded in the city of Doctor Coss, situated near the U.S. border and McAllen, Texas.
The rival cartels are embroiled in a deadly struggle to dominate drug and human smuggling routes in the region. This ongoing conflict has led to frequent outbreaks of violence as each cartel vies for supremacy in the lucrative trade.
Over 100,000 people have been killed and over 27,000 people are reported missing since the Mexican government declared war on the drug cartels on December 11, 2006.
