SUNNYVALE, California – On Saturday, March 23, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (SDPS) Officers responded to a mobile home park, located at 1225 Vienna Dr., on the report of a male subject walking in the area with a knife in his hand.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male in the roadway who was armed with a knife in his hand. The officers gave the subject commands to stay where he was and to place the knife on the ground. The subject ignored the officers’ repeated commands and advanced on one of the officers. An officer discharged his firearm, striking the subject. Life saving measures were immediately initiated by SDPS officers. The subject was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
This incident is an ongoing joint investigation conducted by SDPS and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, per the Santa Clara County Officer Involved Incident Protocol. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Detective G. Limon at (408) 730-7110.
