Suspect Allegedly Steals Ambulance and Shoots at Chicago Police During Chase Caught on Camera

A paramedic who was inside the ambulance at the time managed to jump out safely.

A male suspect allegedly stole a Cicero Fire Department ambulance from outside Loretto Hospital in Chicago and led police on a chase Friday afternoon, during which a police officer fired shots at him, though no one was hit by the gunfire. The pursuit ended in a crash near Cicero and Chicago avenues, after which the suspect was taken into custody.

Details of the Incident
Theft: The incident began around 4 pm on Friday, November 7, 2025, when the suspect, who was being escorted out of Loretto Hospital by security, ran to a nearby ambulance, got in, and drove off. A paramedic who was inside the ambulance at the time managed to jump out safely a couple of blocks away.

Police Pursuit and Shooting: Chicago police pursued the stolen ambulance through the city’s West Side. At one point, near West Jackson Boulevard and South Central Avenue, police attempted to box in the ambulance, but the suspect rammed into squad cars. An officer then discharged their firearm in the direction of the suspect, but the suspect was not struck by the gunfire and continued to flee.

Crash and Arrest: The chase, which was captured on video, ended when the ambulance crashed into a Chicago police vehicle and a civilian vehicle near Chicago and Cicero avenues. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by numerous officers and taken into custody.

Injuries: Three police officers and four other individuals involved in the collisions were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening or minor injuries. The suspect was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Investigation: The suspect’s identity and charges have not yet been released. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) and the Chicago Police Department are investigating the incident due to the officer’s use of force.
