A Washington State Patrol trooper shot and killed a road rage suspect who was attacking Washington Department of Transportation workers with a hammer.
All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 at US 2 in Everett reopened to traffic late Thursday night after closing for around eight hours after a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper shot and killed a man armed with a hammer who was involved in a “road rage incident.”
According to the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART), troopers responded to the road rage incident on the shoulder of I-5 near Marine View Drive (milepost 197) in Everett just after 4 p.m. Thursday. SMART spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe said the man had rammed a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) contractor vehicle and a lift that was on the shoulder of the interstate. The lift had two WSDOT contractors onboard and was operating over the slough.
