Body camera video released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida shows a deputy accidentally shooting a homeowner while responding to a home invasion call on August 23, 2025.

Key details of the incident include deputies being sent to a home in Pine Hills for a reported attempted home invasion. Before the deputies arrived, the homeowner had fired at the four suspects, who then ran off. Body camera footage shows deputies knocking and announcing their presence at the front door. As the homeowner opened the door, a deputy’s weapon accidentally discharged, hitting the man. The homeowner can be heard exclaiming that he had been shot. He sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was released from the hospital the same day. The deputy involved has been moved to an administrative position and is no longer on law enforcement duty. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is looking into the accidental shooting.
