Concord Police Release Video of Officers Shooting Alleged Bank Robber Cruz Vargas

Police say they also located alleged accomplice Elijah Phillips who was still in possession of the stolen cash from the credit union robbery.

The Concord Police Department has released videos showing the pursuit and shooting of alleged bank robber Cruz Vargas, who was caught on police cameras.

Police say they located 21-year-old Elijah Phillips of San Jose, who was still in possession of the stolen cash from the credit union robbery. Investigators later learned that Cruz Vargas was on CDCR parole for a prior carjacking, while Phillips had active warrants for domestic violence and theft. Vargas survived a gunshot wound sustained during the incident.

According to court records, Contra Costa County prosecutors have charged Vargas with multiple counts of armed robbery and carjacking, as well as several weapons violations. Phillips faces similar charges, including multiple counts of armed robbery and carjacking, along with one count of possessing a machine gun.
