by Detective Eric Muñoz on July 31, 2025 8:47 pm

Seattle police detectives are investigating a shooting near the Downtown Waterfront this afternoon.

At about 4:10 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of Alaskan Way. Before police arrived, two Fish and Wildlife Officers nearby took the suspect into custody. When SPD officers arrived they arrested him and recovered the gun as evidence.

Police located a 68-year-old man in a wheelchair suffering from a gunshot wound. The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) provided medical aid to the victim. SFD transported him to Harborview Medical Center in serious, but stable condition.

Officers determined that the suspect and victim got into a verbal argument before the shooting. The elderly victim, confined to a wheelchair, became upset when the suspect took an item of his. He pulled out a knife and motioned towards the suspect while in his wheelchair.

The suspect then shot the victim in the chest.

Police transported the suspect to Seattle Police Headquarters to be interviewed by detectives in the Gun Violence Reduction Unit.

Officers booked the suspect into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.
