Incident Details
Location: Maverik gas station at the intersection of South Parker Road and South Peoria Street, Denver.
Date/Time: Around 8:45 p.m. on October 27, 2025.
Events: Moore entered the store, attempted to buy cigarettes, and, when he couldn’t pay, produced a firearm and demanded the clerks lock the doors and call the police. He consumed alcohol and smoked a cigarette while waiting for officers to arrive, and placed his ID on the counter, leading police to believe he sought a confrontation.
Police Response: When officers arrived, they heard a gunshot from inside the store and forced entry. They found Moore with the two clerks and repeatedly ordered him to drop his weapon. Moore fired his gun ten times in total, with nine of those shots directed at officers after they entered.
Outcome: Multiple officers returned fire, shooting 70 rounds in total, and struck Moore. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
Injuries: One police officer was shot in the leg, requiring surgery. Both store employees suffered non-life-threatening injuries from bullet fragments or shrapnel. All injured parties were released from the hospital and are expected to recover.
The Denver Police Department has released body-worn camera video of the incident, which is currently under investigation by the Office of the Independent Monitor and the department’s Critical Incident Response Team.
