Pennsylvania State Police Release Video of Use of Force on Suspect Dereck Raimey

Raimey was charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI.

Viewer discretion is advised as some images may be distressing.

The video, captured from a trooper’s cruiser, showcases the encounter that took place on December 6 near I-80 in Boggs Township.

The dashcam footage reveals the moments when an apparently unarmed driver was taken into custody in Centre County following a high-speed chase.

According to state police, they attempted to stop a white Chevy Tahoe for tailing a tractor-trailer too closely.

However, the driver evaded them, leading to a pursuit that concluded when the driver exited the interstate and halted on a rural Centre County road. In the video, the driver can be seen extending his hands out of the vehicle before a trooper appears to strike him numerous times, while attempting to extract him from the car. Additionally, it appears that the driver’s seatbelt is still restraining him.

Following his apprehension, the mugshot of Dereck Raimey reveals that his left eye appears to be swollen shut.

Raimey faces charges including fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, and DUI.

  1. Given this young man’s past criminal record etc., and the fact that he fled at such a high speed, & potentially endangered his own life & other peoples’ life, the use of force here is 100% totally legally justified always, (aroaa), because the PD is very angry at such facts at that time & trying to resolve the situation. He did good to show his hands, but also possibly resisted arrest a bit. His injury looks fairly minor.
The PD is aware of his troubles in the past, but he will heal up.
